Hugh Hewitt on Rudy and Judges

Hugh appeared on Sean Hannity’s radio show today and had this to say regarding Rudy and judges:

HANNITY: All right. Let me ask you. You talked about the appointment of judges when you were discussing myth and the issue of abortion. I’ve interviewed Rudy both on radio and television. His answer, yes, I’m pro choice. I’m for parental notification. Now I’m against partial birth abortion. I disavow what I said 18 years ago, the tape that Alan ran. But I would appoint originalist judges. Does that work for conservatives?

HEWITT: Yes, it does. And I’ll tell you, I had a little experience with this. When I was in the Reagan White House I shared an office with a pretty smart guy by the name of John Roberts. We were lawyers together.

HANNITY: I knew you were hanging with smart people.

HEWITT: Always hanging around smart people, they do all the work. What I got to realize with Romney and I believe with Rudy, who was like the justice with John Roberts and with me and with Bill Smith. And the rest of us is that originalism means something. It means that we don’t want judges inventing stuff. And so it’s perfectly consistent for Rudy to say he is going to appoint Alito and Roberts. And the same thing…
